THREE TO TRY: LONDON EGGPLANTS

helinapalermo

Eggplant, aubergine – whatever you call it, I’m obsessed. So much in fact, that once I discovered my love for it a few years ago, I literally ate eggplants every day for a year!

I’ve never met an eggplant I didn’t like, and if it’s on the menu, I’ll have it. So I thought I’d pass on my tips on where to get the best ones in London. You’re welcome.

Nizuni

This japanese restaurant on Charlotte Street is very popular, especially for their nice and reasonably priced sushi. They have an excellent choice of Japanese dishes, such as lunch bento boxes and of course the eggplant. The Japanese like to cook it with miso (aka nasu dengaku), which is my favourite. Melting on your tongue, the miso both sweet and salty – yum!

Roka

Roka has three restaurants in London, all with a cool vibe and really good food! The eggplant here is also inspired by the Japanese  cuisine, but what makes the difference is the topping; bonito. Don’t miss their robata sticks either!

Ottolenghi

Chef Yotam Ottolenghi is known for his Middle Eastern cooking. He’s all over London with several deli/cafés and the Nopi restaurant, all serving his famous eggplants. The toppings vary, but they’re buttery soft and served with a rich buttermilk sauce. Definitely a must try in London!
