8 TIPS FOR SUMMER IN NYC

New York is hot in the summer, so here are my best tips to surviving the heat.

 

1. Ice cream, lots of it.

Sorbet, sandwich, vegan or the classic version – whatever keeps you cool. Ice cream is everywhere, but my favourites are the Van Leeuwen truck, Grom or these three.

2. Seek out a pool

If I can only give you one tip for a summer holiday in New York, it would be to have a day or two poolside. More hotels have pools with day passes available, try McCarren or Dream Downtown.

3. Open air movies

Why go to to a dark cinema when you can go to a rooftop? In the summer many places show movies under the sky like or Syfy With a View.

4. Go sailing

The cheapest, easiest and (I think) best way is with the . Buy a day pass that allows you to hop on and off around Brooklyn, or take the ride all the way from Wall Street to Midtown, just for the breeze. Weekdays are less crowded, but on weekends the Smorgasburg foodmarket in Brooklyn is worth a visit.

5. Go shopping

… for the air conditioning of course. Yes, I’ll take any excuse to go shopping, but department stores are seriously cold.

6. Iced drinks

Iced coffee, iced tea, iced matcha. You can get everything in NYC iced, so why not? My favourite is .

7. Go east

Preferably East Hamptons or Montauk. Beaches and lobster rolls, what more can you ask for? And it’s only a couple of hours away. My tip? Go with the Jitney Ambassador bus, they serve rosé on board.

8. Rooftop bars

No matter how many times you’ve been to New York, there’s something magical about the skyline. Seen from a rooftop with a drink in hand only makes it better. I’m loving the roof at Sixty Soho.
