BÆST

For my birthday two months ago, three of my girlfriends gifted me a dinner at Bæst, and finally this weekend it was time to go. I’ve only heard good things about this place, and the fact that it’s sister restaurant is Michelin-starred Relæ doesn’t hurt.

We had the best night! Bæst (translating to Beast) is the perfect place for a girls night out. On that Friday the atmosphere was busy and lively, people were enjoying drinks at the bar and a dj was setting the mood for a fun night. We were seated at a great table at the end of the restaurant, and waited a few minutes for the waiter. My first thought was that my good impression of this wonderful place would very soon be ruined by horrible service, but luckily he saved his (and Bæst’s) reputation by shaming away my bad thoughts with excellent service and charm.

Now to the food; as one of the only places in Copenhagen, Bæst makes all charcuterie and most cheese in house. That’s right, homemade bresaola, pate, mozzarella and burrata – and it’s all organic! We started with a fresh mozzarella to share, went on with the Bæst selection (and if you ask me, that’s a lot of meat for the price of 195 DKK!) and finished with two pizzas to share; no. 5 with semi dried tomatoes, mozzarella and parma ham, and no. 9 with mozzarella, crown dill, potatoes and blue cheese. I wouldn’t normally go for blue cheese, but this was nothing like a normal blue cheese, it was mild, creamy and perfect on that pizza.

What the girls said?

Emma: “Best mozzarella I’ve ever had!”

Michelle: “The pizza dough is perfectly salty, crispy and fluffy!”

Natalia: “The girls convinced me to try the potato and blue cheese pizza – and I loved it!”

Let’s just say I’m still craving this delicious comfort food, and I’m just waiting for an excuse to come back! As it is placed right next to Empire movie theatre, this could very well qualify for a dinner and a movie.

I really hate Bæst… The charcuterie is amazing, but their pizzas are really not worth mentioning. The worst things is their service – really, really terrible. It feels like a money machine. No feelings at all ;-/

Hi Mette, thanks for your comment! Sorry you feel that way – you obviously had a different experience than I did. I hate it when service is bad, it totally ruins your evening. Hopefully it was a one-timer, or maybe I was just very lucky :)
