My requirements to a bar are quite simple. 1: Cozy atmosphere. 2: It has to be festive without it being too loud – I still want to be able to have a conversation. 3. Good drinks, obviously.
Experimental Cocktail Club aka ECC meets all of them – and more.
It’s located in the middle of London’s busy China Town, but not exactly visible to anyone. By a small stairway you’ll see a man checking the nights guest list in a childrens book (yes, really!). The stairs will take you up to their first level and bar – there are three in total. The interior is dark and cozy, like a classic speakeasy bar. The bar is stocked with good booze, and if you’re celebrating, try a vintage cocktail – who wouldn’t want to try a vintage martini with liqueur from the 1950s?
I’ve had many great nights at ECC, and somehow always find myself back there. I guess that makes it (another) favourite.
They keep half of the seats for walk-ins, but reservations are a good idea.
