Oh Paris, you’re probably my favourite city in the world. At least in Europe. It’s impossible to play favourites with cities, so I’m not going to. However, I will play favourites with Paris hotels, because Grand Pigalle has me falling head over heels.
It opened about 6 months ago, and during my recent trip to Paris I had the chance to stay there. The team behind it is Experimental Group, also founders of the excellent bars Experimental Cocktail Club. Needless to say, the hotel is not only equipped with a cool bar, the minibar is stocked with homemade signature ECC cocktails. How’s that for a reason to stay in? As if the stunning blue and gold interior, art deco details, soft bed, bathrobe and slippers didn’t already make me want to stay in the room all day …
As the name says, it’s situated in the Pigalle area aka Paris’ 9th arrondissement. Never been here? No worries, it’s a blossoming area. The south of Pigalle or SoPi is in walking distance to Sacré-Cæur and full of charming cafés, cute boutiques and food shops. With the fall sunset hitting the hilly streets of South Pigalle, it’s hard not to fall in love with this area, that feels like a hidden gem from the touristy streets surrounding Moulin Rouge just around the corner.
Another thing about this hotel is the service. Everyone from the receptionist to the bartender was very sweet and attentive – which is not necessarily a common thing in Paris hotels.
