Oh California, I miss you!
Several people had told us to go to Nobu in Malibu, so we decided to drive there for lunch on what happened to be the warmest day of that week. With our sunnies on and the top down, we rode up Pacific Coast Highway – the perfect way to start the new year, if you ask me!
Nobu is a high end sushi restaurant with locations from New York and Bahamas to Dubai – and two in Los Angeles. The first restaurants opened in the late 1980’ies, but Nobu is is more popular than ever.
The Malibu location is literally placed right on the beach. They have both outdoor and indoor seatings, almost all of them with an ocean view. We went for lunch, but I’m sure it is stunning at sunset too!
Besides sushi and sashimi, Nobu experiment with a lot of Japanese dishes (the most popular is the signature Miso Black Cod) – we went for the fluke sashimi with yuzu sauce, a spicy tuna rool, a salmon skin roll and my favourite; miso aubergines. My advice? Always, always go for the miso aubergines, if they’re on the menu. You won’t regret it.
The menu was booming with delicious stuff I wanted to try; lobster shiitake salad, king crab tempura, crab cakes with uni bearnaise and I could go on. Not to forget dessert: I’ll have the acai froyo, please.
Nobu in Malibu is definitely worth the hype and the drive, I’d love to go back.
