Is this not the prettiest nail salon you’ve ever seen?

I love the new wave of stylish, chic and conscious nail salons (like this New York favourite). Say bye bye to dull rooms with bad lightning, and hello to cozy spaces, staff that’s paid properly and polishes free from unnecessary chemicals.

I stopped by Olive & June the day I was going to the Golden Globes Award Show- if that’s not a reason to have a pretty manicure, I don’t know what is. They have two locations in LA, one in Pasadena and one in Beverly Hills. To get in the red carpet mood, I chose Beverly Hills.

Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely girl, and asked to fill out a customer questionnaire. Here’s what I wrote …

Preferred shape of nails? Almond-ish. Something in between round and square.

Drink of choice? Coffee – but I’ve already had too many today, so let’s go with water.

How ticklish are your feet? (yes really!) Very! But I’m working on that …

Massage pressure? Go for it!

Favourite magazines? (Not that I need to tell you, but …) ELLE (of course)

After choosing between the hundreds of colours, I took a very comfortable seat in the low leather chair, and found myself in heaven.

On my feet I went for a classic bright red from Nars (red nails for the red carpet, of course!) and for the manicure I chose Nails Inc.’s No.12 – a milky soft pink, that’s girly without being too Barbie, discreet without being boring. I loved it!

If I lived in LA, I would be spending lots of weekends here – guess I’ll have to settle with coming back the next time I’m in California.
